C. J. Stoessner & Co. Sells Property in Downtown Smithfield, Virginia

July 1, 2005

C. J. Stoessner & Co. recently elected to sell the property where the former antiques and furniture store was in operation for 4 and 1/2 years. Last November, the store was reduced to "by appointment only" status and by December was closed. Reasons for these decisions were that the growth the store was looking to achieve could not be accomplished in a timely manner.

"Although Smithfield is growing rapidly, it is a fact that most residents travel out of the area to make major purchases. We don't feel that will change." - Chris Stoessner

C. J. Stoessner & Co. still holds a lease on the property but will vacate when the property transaction is complete in August.

C. J. Stoessner & Co. decided to sell the property at a key time due to current real estate prices.

"Because we had interest in the property, as well as owning the retail store, we had to look at this from different points of view. The real estate end won out." - Chris Stoessner

The entire property has been sold. The property was host to Decator Street Antiques / C. J. Stoessner & Co., both owned by Christopher J. Stoessner of Kill Devil Hills, NC and over the years, an appliance store, a florist and historically, Thomas W. Robbins, Inc.

The entire Stoessner Inventory is being disposed of by C. J. Stoessner & Co. with no outside liquidator involvement. All store fixtures & signs are being kept and will not be avaible for sale to the public.
